Will of Ephraim Johnson
In the name of God-Amen I Ephraim Johnson of the State of North Carolina and
County of Sampson do make and ordain the following to be my last Will and
Testament that is to say
First I will that my Just Debts be pay’d by my Executors .
2. I Give and bequeath to my son Aaron Johnson the Land and Plantation on
which I live on Condition that said Aaron shall pay or cause to be pay’d unto
my son Jesse Johnson within three years from this date the Sum of one
Hundred and fifty Dollars- and in case the Said payment is not made within
the time above mentioned my Will is that my son Jesse have instead of that
Sum the lower and of the aforementioned Land to be divided by a line
Beginning at a Gum tree in the Well Branch at the place where the line that
Divides between my Land and brother Solomon’s Crosses said branch,
then up said Branch to the Marsh Run to a Gum then to the point of Pines
in the Mingo Swamp then a Straight Course to a Corner on the Road then a
pine in the fork of the Bridge Branch then down the Bridge Branch to Solomon
Johnsons line to the beginning provided Nevertheless it is my Will that my sons
John and William Johnson shall have the priviledges of the Grist Mill that they
have had formerly and also that my Daughters Nancy Elizabeth and Mourning
Johnson Shall be entitled to a place of abode in the House I posses and the
priviledge of tending as much of the Cleard land as will support the stock they
may Posses during the time they live a Single life-
3. I Five to my son John Johnson my Copper Still
4. I Give to my son William Johnson the Sum of Ten Dollars to be pay’d out of
my estate-
5th I Give to my Daughters Nancy Elizabeth and Mourning Johnson one Bed and
furniture apiece and as much pewter as will make their shares equal to the other
Childrens.
6th I Give unto my Grandaughter Kitty Johnson the Sum of one Dollar-to be pay’d
by my Executors.
7th I Give Jointly to and among my Daughters Nancy Elizabeth and Mourning and
my son Aaron the whole of my stock of every description.
8th All my property not Given away above my Will is Should be equally Divided
among all my Children Mala and female
Finale----
And Lastly I appoint my Sons John and William Johnson Executors of this Will and
do utterly revoke all former Wills-
In Witness of the above said Ephraim Johnson have here unto Set my hand and Seal
the 8th Dec. 1818.
